Profile Ewerton dos Santos

When I was 11 years old I started surfing at Asturias beach on the Guaruja and after 2 years I started to train hard everyday with Paulo Matos who is today the Head of Surf Co in Brazil (Hangloose, Quiksilver, Rusty , Reef and Volcom) and also the coach of Heitor Pereira, Junior Faria and Jesse Mendes.

Check out some photos of the Brazilian Surfer below:

I started competing when i was 13 years old and by the time i was 15 I had already won some championship and also other events in the local area. I was part of the team, but unfortunately in the transition between amateur and professional I lost my sponsorship and I'm from a humble family that could not afford the expenses of the professional circuit, so I ended up dismotivated and having to move to Sao Paulo and other regions that were not on the beach for work reasons.

I started working on a project in Sao Paulo to raise some money and travel to Australia, where a friend of mine had already been there and he was motivating me all the time to go and try living abroad, especially in a place which is perfect for anyone who surfs.

I arrived in Australia in 2006 and like most of the Brazilians who come here, I had to split my time surfing and spending time in the kitchen, as I did not speak any English at this time, so I started washing dishes, but because I was enjoying the Australian lifestyle, I studied cooking and hospitality for 2 years and became head chef in one of the busiest restaurants on the Gold Coast.

Today I am Australian resident and a free surfer, I love to surf before going to work in places such as Snapper Rocks, Kirra, Burleigh Heads, The Spit and Strad.

Since I arrived on the land of the kangaroos, I’ve been three times to Indonesia and I have visited most of the islands over there; G-land (Grajagan) Pasti (Mentawai), Desert Point (Lombok) Lakey Peak (Sumbawa) and Bali.

Bali for me is the best place in the world, because it has great waves, very good food, nice and cold beer, cheap accomodation and there are a lot of beautiful and hot girls from everywhere in the world.

For 2011 my plans are to go surfing at Teahupoo in Tahiti and also I want to surf Cloud Break and Tavarua in Fiji.
