Baby seals slaughtered

The annual Canadian seal hunt continues despite the decades of world outrage and protest.

This barbaric commercial hunt which takes place this month, is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on earth and sadly targets infant seals, all between 2 and 12 weeks old. You can help by supporting HSI, who are on the ground in Canada, and their work in saving baby seals from slaughter. Their work is heart-breaking but absolutely crucial.

Thankfully HSI continue to document this atrocious cruelty to expose it to the world, and are thus helping to end the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent baby seals.

Baby seal under attack

"Three years ago, 217,000 seals were killed. Last year, it was down significantly -- around 69,000. But that's still 69,000 too many!" said Rebecca Aldworth, Humane Society International/Canada. "We are closer now than ever before to ending the slaughter -- and it's because of you. I know if we work together, we can win this battle. Watch this video of our team flying over the harp seal nursery to witness the sealers in action -- then, please make an emergency donation today to help us shine a spotlight on this cruelty and help end the slaughter."

Seals lay slaughtered around hunterThe seals are hunted for their skin/fur and meat, which is believed to be exported to a range of countries including Norway, Finland, Hong Kong, Turkey, and Russia, where they are used to make designer-label coats and accessories.

This hunt is not only brutally cruel it is a serious threat to the long-term survival of the harp seal species.

Click here for ways you can help the baby seals from slaughter, such as writing a letter to the Canadian Prime Minister or as HSI Australia suggest Write to the Canadian Tourism Commission and tell them that you are horrified at the continuation of the government-supported seal slaughter and are resolved not to visit Canada until it has been abolished.

Emphasise the negative publicity of the seal hunt for Canada as host of the largest wholesale slaughter of marine mammals in the world, outnumbering even the infamous whale hunts of Japan, Iceland and Norway."

According to the Humane Society International thousands more seals will be killed this year and every year until we stop the slaughter. Please help abolish all acts of animal cruelty.
