Billabong World Junior Championship 2011Congratulations Caio Ibelli and Leila Hurst for winning the ASP World Junior Title 2011

The Australian Wade Carmichael from Australia and Alessa Quizon from Hawaii were the winners of the third and final event of the ASP World Junior Title Series, the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships.

The Final day of the competition had the Australia Wade Carmichael defeating Natahn Carvalho from Hawaii.

Garret Parkes has been defeated by Felipe Toledo from Brazil on the quarter finals which caused Caio ibelli and Garret Parkes to have a Surf-Off to decide who would be the 2011 World Junior Champion due a tie for the top spot on the ASP World Junior Title rankings. After an exciting heat, Caio Ibelli took the trophy home 

 

"I'm so stoked to bring the ASP World Junior Title back to Brazil!" Ibelli said. "I feel so amazing now! I didn't know I had another opportunity to win, I just found out this morning. I want to thank my family, my friends and Oakley for their support. Garrett (Parkes) is a good surfer and he's at home in Australia so I knew I had to do my best."

 

For the girls, Alessa Quizon from Hawaii scored 13.67 defeating Philippa Anderson from australia (8.67) but it was Lelila Hurst who made to the top of the final ranking claiming the Women’s ASP World Junior Title.

 

Caio Ibelli and Leila Hurst join a prestigious list of former ASP World Junior Champions, including: Adriano De Souza (BRA), Joel Parkinson (AUS), Andy Irons (HAW), Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS) and Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS).

The men's round 2 had a few heats and more coming tomorrow. Maybe we'll have some heats of the round 3 also depending on the surf conditions.

 

“It’s stormy out there, but it’s bigger and there are some clean sections on offer,” Contest Director Luke Egan said. “We’re going to finish Round 2 of the Men’s event, and then make a call to see if we go into Round 3 of the Men’s or the Women’s.”

The Billabong World Junior Championship 2012 is on at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast - Australia. The competition started this last Saturday (21/01/2012) to decide who wil be the ASP 2011 World Junior Champion.

 

The best world junior surfers were out there showing their repertoir of modern maneuvers on 2-3 foot waves at Burleigh Point for the final stop on the 2011 ASP World Junior Tour.

 

The round of of the Men’s 16 heats of Round 1 has finished saturday and Sunday it has ran the Women’s Round 1 and 2
