Congratulations Gabriel Medina for winning the Quiksilver Pro France 2011!

To celebrate kid's days (traditional date in Brazil), the 17 year old Gabriel Medina sent some big names of the tour home earlier during the Quiksilver Pro France 2011 that took place in LA GRAVIERE, Hossegor/France taking it out over Julian Wilson from Australia in a final that will be common in a near future. That was the second competition Medina has been on the Tour after the rotation.

The two big names of the new surfing generation have batlled in three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves with Medina winning by 17.0 to 16.10.

Medina has defeated Kelly Slater and Taylor Knox on his way to the final. And if it wasn't enough for this talented surfer from Brazil, Gabriel Medina had three of the top five highest single-wave scores of the event. That is pretty impressive knowing the competition had competitors as Kelly Slater, Owen Wright, Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning amongst other top surfers on the ASP World Tour.

“This is the best feeling ever,” Medina said. “I beat some great guys on the way to Final and I’m very stoked now. I want to thank all my friends and family and god for their support. It has been an amazing week for me. Just two years ago, I was here competing in the King of the Groms and I won that event and now I’m here in the main event and I’ve won it. It doesn’t seem real.”

“The start of the heat was slow and it was going high tide so it was a challenge,” Medina said. “It was a fun heat. It was a hard hat as well. Julian (Wilson) is an incredible surfer and I know he wanted to win very badly. I knew I needed a big score on that final wave and I had to throw everything I had to get it. I’m very happy right now.”
