Congratulations Kelly Slater for winning the Hurley Pro 2011 at Trestles,CA!

The King of Surfing does it again and claims the highest position on the podium! That was Slater's 5th Hurley Pro victory and the 48th victory on the ASP Tour.

At 39 years of age, Kelly Slater has defeated the 21 year old Australian Owen Wright in the finals by 17.50 to 16.74 showing that the new generation still has lots to learn from the King. What it seemed to be a victory to Owen Wright turned out to be another one for Kelly who got a scored at the last minute of the heat to celebrate another win on the ASP Tour.

“Owen (Wright) is tough and he’s been surfing great! There really are no weak points to his surfing and he’s going to be a standout in every spot. A lot of the guys tried to get him this week and I got lucky in that last exchange. I was taking the first wave of the set under his priority and once I got priority I wanted to wait. It almost looked like there wasn’t a wave after Owen’s. It’s been fun surfing against Owen and surfing Lowers. It’s been a great week and thanks everyone for the crazy support, it’s been wonderful.” Slater said.

Owen now sits on the second position on the ASP Ranking and has made the 3rd consecutive final with Slater. Slater always said that Andy Irons was the surfer who motivated him to keep competing and the surfer who made it fun again for him to compete due to their rivalry in the water. Has Slater now found another surfer to push his limits again and keep him on the tour for a few more years?

“I’ve been enjoying the rivalry,” Wright said. “We’ve had some great heats and the last three finals have been great. I’m glad the sets came through at the end. It was a bit of a dud final but I’m glad that last exchange came though at the end. It made it exciting.”

The next stop on the 2011 ASP World Title season will be the Quiksilver Pro France from October 4 – 13, 2011.
