South Stradbroke Island or TOS (The Other Side) is one of the most feasted waves on the Gold Coast - Australia. The bank is the result of a regular influx of sand from the Gold Coast Sand Bypassing System(pipe). This beach break combined together with off-shore winds breaks on the incoming swells with heaps of peaky configurations. You will get more barrel time here than at most places in the world when you surf there. Check out some surfing photo gallery of South Stradbroke Island below:
Want to surf South Stradbroke Island? Here is how you get out there! If you are coming from the Gold Coast Hwy, take Waterways Dr. Turn left at the roundabout and follow Seaworld Dr until the road ends. To get to South Stradbroke Island, you can get a water taxi, which we highly recommend because there is a busy boat traffic on the channel and also a some sharks swimming and feeding on the channel, but if you don't worry about those things, you can jump in the water and have a nice paddle across the seaway enjoying the view and warming up for the surf session.
Wave Type: Rights and Lefts. Break Tipe: Beach Break Best Swell: NE, E, SE & S. Best winds: NW, W & SW. Hazards: Sharks, crowds & boats. Best time: All year.
