East Sumbawa is a good place to stay and surf all day. You can choose from many World Class Surfing Spots, rights and lefts, hollow or easy waves, all close by.
Lakey Peak is a great hollow A-frame left, stays open most of the time, with a suck right off the same peak. The wave is powerful and works in all tides. Down the beach on the right from Lakey Peak is Nungas, fun for longboards and less experienced surfers. Sometimes when the swell is too big at Lakey Peak, Nunga’s is the spot to ride huge lefts. Check out the surfing photo gallery of East Sumbawa bellow: A short walk to the east is Lakey Pipe, a super hollow sucking left great for body boarders and experienced surfers. Periscopes is a perfect right-hander to surf. You can have a nice walk, which will take you around an hour to get there, or you can get the motorbike and get there in 10 minutes. Also, there are many more surfing spots like Coblestones, Nungadouros and others secrets surfing spots around the area. There are heaps of cheap places to stay right on the beach, but it does get crowded in mid season. So book early! It gets blown out a bit in peak season trade winds, so early mornings or wet season is the best time to go on a surf trip to East Sumbawa. Atention: No ATMs at East Sumbawa, so we recommend to you take your cash before to go. Best season: December - May. Wave type: Lefts and Rights Break Types: Reef Hazards: Sharp reefs/rocks, powerful waves
