Brazilian Party - Valentine's Day

Brazilian Party celebrates Valentine's Day with style on the Gold Coast - Australia

For those who does'nt know, Saint Valentine's Day, often simply Valentine's Day, is a holiday observed on February 14 honoring one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentinus. It was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD, and was later deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI. It is celebrated in countries around the world, mostly in the West, although it remains a working day in all of them.

Storm but classic conditions were the kick off of this week's swell.

Last Monday morning (22/08/2011) I woke up and the weather wasn't very nice. Cloudy, raining and windy.

Lennox Heads Pro Surfers Invasion

Last saturday (13-08-2011) Lennox Heads had some nice 3 to 4 foot waves pumping all day.

After checking the forecast I decided to go down to Lennox Heads (NSW - Australia) to get the South swell that was going to hit the coast. Called a mate (Gustavo Wescher) and we headed down the famous point break. We checked from Byron Bay all the way to Boulders but the best spot was Lennox.

Water, Wind and Sun, or CSG?

Coal Seam Gas Mining is the biggest environmental disaster this country has ever faced. Many people are unaware that it already threatens our water supplies, farm lands and lives!

There are over 1,000 gas wells in Queensland to date, with another 90,000 planned for QLD and NSW! Protestors gathered together in Broadbeach on Saturday to make a stand AGAINST more CSG mines and FOR other natural energy sources such as water, wind and solar energy.

Andy Irons - Acute mixed drug ingestion?

Andy Irons - Acute mixed drug ingestion?

Finally, 6 months after the death of 3x world champion Andy Irons, the final autopsy report was revealed to the surfing community and the world.

Irons was found dead on November 2, 2010, in a hotel room at the Dallas airport, but the release of the results of the autopsy was postponed twice in recent months. The New York Times got a copy of the official autopsy report, which concluded the 32-year-old died primarily of a heart attack, with the secondary cause listed as "acute mixed drug ingestion".

"This is a very simple case. Irons died of a heart attack due to coronary focus, ie, severe atherosclerosis, hardening of arteries. He had a plaque, producing 70 to 80 percent of its anterior descending coronary artery. This narrowing is very severe. A sign of this severity, located in the anterior descending coronary artery, is commonly associated with sudden death. " said Dr. Vincent Di Maio, a pathologist from San Antonio consulted and hired by the family. He said that "there were no other factors contributing to the death".

But for those who have followed Andy Irons career always had doubt about this report and an the speculation of an article from Outside magazine, who exposed the secret use of drugs. This speculation, it seems, was not unfounded. Chief Examiner of Tarrant County, Nizam Peerwani, MD, lists a second cause of death as "acute intoxication of mixed ingestion."

Irons family has accepted the official report and said Andy Irons had long suffered from mood orders and drug abuse.

"Andy was prescribed Xanax and Zolpidem (Ambien) to treat anxiety and occasional insomnia - a result of a bipolar disorder diagnosed by his family doctor at age 18," a statement said. "This is when Andy first began experiencing episodes of manic highs and depressive lows. The family believes Andy was in some denial about the severity of his chemical imbalance and tended to blame his mood swings on himself and his own weaknesses, choosing to self-medicate with recreational drugs."

Surfing with Friends 2011

It happened this past weekend (4-5 June 2011) a surfing championship held by invitation only by Back Wash and Lost at Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) in the State of Parana - Brazil.

The event was supposed to have four categories, but due to a large swell, which caused the beach breaks to be out of control, with big and messy waves it only had two categories: I'm surfing a lot and I only surf at the weekends.
